Going out on the town and having date-night always seems like the ideal thing. On the other hand staying home and getting some good alone time with your partner is also a good idea. But thinking of things to do at home is always hard for some reason. We always think of the same things; Netflix, order food, grab your favorite alcohol and chill out. Yes, those things are great, but there are other ways to get closer with your partner other than the same ole' things that eventually get like routine and sometimes routines can become boring. Here are a few ideas on how to create a new standard for date-night at home by putting a twist on some of the things we already enjoy and possibly some new ideas to put down for next time.
Setting The Tone:
You can start by setting the mood, this can look like multiple things. You can start off by creating anticipation for the big night during the week. This could be something like giving one another special erotic coupons to be used for date-nights at home only. There are also a lot of great free templates for "love coupons" online to create something extra special for the evening. This is great, because they can be used whenever throughout the night, a lot of room for being spontaneous. Another way you can set the tone if a movie is on the list move the couches out of the way and lay down as many covers as needed and some pillows, cuddle up and get ready for the unlimited space to lay out without worrying about not having enough space.
A great tip is to cut back on the lights that are in the area. Getting some candles, LED rope lights, or even small string Christmas lights are a great cheap start. Hang the lights in a safe area and watch your old room turn into something right off Pinterest.
If a movie isn't what your doing, maybe a dinner and you have the space you could set up a nice candle lit table outside in the backyard or even on your balcony, like this one. Sometimes going outside isn't an option, you could always set up a nice table inside with candles, flower petals, and a chilled bottle of whatever your preference is for the evening, like this. To make it even more special and memorable you can create a menu with what you all will be eating/doing for the evening. If you don't have a printer around you could create a digital menu on your iPad/Tablet. Look, the possibilities are endless when setting the mood.
To-Do Checklist:
Accomplishing your special date-night in doesn't stop at the setting. You now have to think about what your going to do on this date!! This is where is can get a little tricky and where most of our brains result in picking the same thing to do. Not this time. We are setting a new standard for at home dating activities, this will entail thinking outside the box a little. Want to learn to cook something new together, but don't know what to choose from? Pick something with not a lot of ingredients, makes the store run easier and cheaper. Or choose something that you've wanted to learn to cook that they know how to cook already or vice-versa. But we understand, cooking may not be on this date-night idea list. So if ordering food is the way, order from a restaurant you all have been wanting to try.
After cooking/ordering and eating, now what? Playing adult games is something fun to do. There are games geared toward adult couples that won't have you sitting around guessing movie titles all night. There is a huge amount of adult games to get the conversation and the evening going in the right direction. There are games that range from truth-or-dare to drinking games all the way down to matching card games!!
If you don't want to guess movie titles all night, you might want to watch some. Watching a movie is always a great go to, to be able to relax with your partner and cuddle up is always heavenly. I know it's tempting to turn on that Netflix app and hit play on your favorite show, don't. If possible try to rent/watch a movie through another streaming service. Even if it's an old movie, but if Netflix is a must try finding a new movie or series. You could even put together a playlist and both of you can choose something to watch.
Additionally, bringing activities inside that you would usually do outside is always something fun to do. Putting together flight boards with a variety of 3-4 different wines or beers is a fun twist on date-night at home. Makes you feel like your at a tasting at a winery or brewery, the best part, you don't have to pay extra to get another round!! If you're looking for an alternative to using wine glasses, checkout the miniature bottles of wine, those accomplish the same thing.
Another great way for you and your partner to get a little more closer is to give each other erotic massages, make it a mini spa night. You could get some nice massage oils/candles to get your sexual desires alert and ready to love on one another. Also running a nice bath with some melting rose petals to give the bathroom a nice faint relaxing aroma of roses to show your partner this isn't just a regular date-night. To add a little razzle to the dazzle you could also grab some slippers and robes for the both of you and lounge in those for the evening.
If creating DIY flight boards or having a mini spa night doesn't interest you and your partner, you can think of a theme. You could always think of some type of theme date-night. For example, if you guys love the Caribbean, try to build date-night in around the Caribbean. The decoration, the food, the music, the movies, the games, the drinks. Everything, well as much as you can. This is even great if you guys are from different states as well. California-meets-New York and so on. Themed date-nights are always awesome, they may seem like a lot, but once you decide on the theme all you have to do is google the state/country food or state/country movies and plenty of ideas are going to come flowing. And if your already from there it's even easier, if your from New York you know you need pizza and/or hot dogs. It's a theme out there for everybody!!
Don't Overthink
Of course you want everything to be perfect, but your Livingroom or balcony doesn't have to come out exactly like the pins you pinned from Pinterest. As long as a plan was created and executed, which shows that you all tried to think outside the box. If you tried the movie night and didn't enjoy it, try something else next time and see what could be improved for the next time. Having all the latest bells and whistles shouldn't be the only thing on your mind. Making sure that you and your partner are getting some much needed together time and enjoying it is what's most important. Of course introducing anything new into your relationship always talk with your partner beforehand.
